Member Spotlight: Mike McPherron

For Mike McPherron, staying fit has been a lifelong journey that began during his college days and has only intensified over the years. An avid runner, Mike has completed an impressive 10 marathons and over 50 half marathons. However, he quickly realized that to truly elevate his fitness, he needed more than just running; he needed a balanced approach that included cross-training.

Mike joined HFFA in the early 2000s with the goal of complementing his running program with a structured cross-training regimen. He started by exploring various aerobic, fit, step, and spin classes, but eventually found his stride with the Strong classes, which he now attends three times a week.

“Sometimes, just getting enough motivation to get in the car and drive to HFFA can be a challenge,” Mike admits. “But once I start working out, I feel so much better as the endorphins begin to flow.”

For Mike, the group environment at HFFA has been a “Strong” motivator (pun intended). The camaraderie and collective pursuit of fitness goals in the Strong classes have not only kept him disciplined but have also introduced him to a variety of exercises that keep each class fresh and engaging. Through these classes, Mike has made several new friends, and they often extend their connection beyond the gym with social activities.

Adopting a philosophy of fitness has been crucial for Mike, especially as he grows older. He continues to prioritize working out and active recovery, understanding the importance of staying healthy. His disciplined approach to fitness has led to increased strength, improved overall fitness, and a boost in self-confidence.

Mike’s advice to others is simple but powerful: “Continue to stay disciplined, keep working out several times a week, and maintain an active lifestyle.” His journey is a testament to the benefits of a well-rounded fitness regimen and the positive impact it can have on all aspects of life.
