Philosophy
We believe that a developmentally appropriate program that is both age fitting and individually proper best meets the needs of children.
Children learn best by being actively involved in their world. Children will have the freedom to explore their world through hands on experiences, exploration, and positive role modeling.
Our program is designed to develop the cognitive, emotional, social, health and fitness needs of children in an environment that promotes healthy growth and development of children working and playing together. |

Program Outline
Two-Year Olds
A two-year-old moves through his world reaching out to talk and play with others. He/she speaks in three to four word sentences and usually has something to say about everything. Our two year old room will provide a warm, nurturing and fun environment. Each child will learn at his/her own pace and is encouraged to participate in many activities which will enhance all areas of growth. Art activities and manipulatives help develop fine motor skills. Daily participation in outdoor play or gym time provides development of gross motor skills. We have daily “Circle Time” which includes finger plays, stories, songs, puppets, and flannel board activities which help develop cognitive and language skills. They love to act out songs, learn songs with actions, and make up their own songs.
Three-Year Olds
A child’s third year is full of adventure and curiosity. Development in language and vocabulary enables the child to better express thoughts and ideas, thus making life easier on you and them. Children of this age love praise and friendly words about themselves. Their self esteem grows as they take on more responsibilities and make more choices for themselves. Socially, they begin to make strong friendships with a few of their friends. Because of this they may not choose to play with others in the group. Children are encouraged to experiment, move, touch, and enjoy their world based upon their own interests. Because Three-year olds have a longer attention span, our daily circle time includes calendar, theme of the week, more involved stories and music. Through songs, finger plays, and group activities we encourage the development of language, vocabulary, listening, and social skills.
Four-Year Olds
The four year old classroom is a busy and exciting experience. There is so much to see and learn. They are ready for the challenges of more complicated toys, books, and games. They often need help in setting limits and finding quiet time to unwind. They are guided in making choices and resolving conflict. This is also a time for lots of growth and changes. While our focus is in helping all children to get ready for Kindergarten with pre-writing, pre-reading and pre-math skills, we still adhere to the belief that learning takes place through play. We incorporate daily calendar activities, games and puzzles to provide cognitive development. Four-year olds are creative and encouraged to create original artwork, focusing on the process rather than the outcome.
Transitional Kindergarten
Featuring a smaller class size and more individualized attention, the T-K program is designed to provide a literacy focused curriculum to ensure all children are ready for kindergarten. The classroom will be organized and stocked with learning areas allowing the children to learn through play. The daily schedule will offer an appropriate balance of active and quiet, large and small group activities, and individual child and teacher centered activities. Core learning activities will include familiar tools such as blocks, housekeeping, dramatic play, science, art, music, and movement.
Flip N Fly Days
Similar to our popular Fitness Fridays, the new Flip N Fly Days will feature our dive coach Lori Pearman teaching basic gymnastics and tumbling for one hour with the balance of the day focused on Healthy Start Curriculum and helping the children learn the benefits of living an active and healthy life. This is an add-on program to our traditional programming days.

Staff
Staff members are chosen on the basis of past experience, training, and dedication to the children they work with. We are very proud to present a program for pre-school children that offers quality education in a unique and diversified environment. It is designed to develop the needs of the whole child. We are fortunate to have on staff highly qualified, experienced teachers. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and participate annually in on-going professional training. Effective May 1, 2007 Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics now completes a background check on every person working in our children’s services department at the time of hire. We have also implemented a company wide drug screening program. These steps have been taken to increase the protection and safety of your children. |
