HFFA, PTA TOO HOST RUN TOO OVERCOME DURING AUTISM MONTH

HUNTERSVILLE – Help celebrate Autism Awareness Month at the Run Too Overcome 5K and Kids Fun Run, being held at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics (HFFA) Saturday, April 18. The Run Too Overcome was created by PTA Too (Together Overcoming Obstacles) to raise both funds and awareness for the needs of the area’s Exceptional Children’s (EC) programs.

The 5K begins at 8:00 a.m. at HFFA, and the Kids Fun Run begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Huntersville Athletic Field (across the street from HFFA). Registration is available online through April 15 at www.queencitytiming.com.

Proceeds from the event will benefit elementary EC programs in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools North Learning Community.

Kids Fun Run participants will receive medals from Davidson Mayor John Woods and students involved in the Girls on the Run program. Several schools will have their mascots and physical education teachers on hand to cheer the kids on. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofits that support special needs families through several on-site information booths.

“Community involvement is a major part of our mission at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics,” said Molly Burroughs, HFFA executive director. “The Run Too Overcome is a wonderful opportunity for us to combine our race expertise with an organization that is making a difference for children and families in our community. We look forward to helping raise awareness for this important cause.”
