The Birkdale Animal Hospital 2009 Kids Triathlon Series is open to children 2 – 14 years old including physically challenged. Race 4 will include Series Championships & Festival. Additional event information can be found at www.nckidstri.com.
Procedures
Arrive at HFFA in plenty of time to set up bikes in transition in the Huntersville Park across the street.
Pick up your packet and aquaint yourself with the race course and area. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to address questions and assist you in the set up.
Age Categories/Distance
1 – 6 yrs: 100 yard fun run
4 – 6 yrs: 25y swim/.3m bike/100y run
7 – 8 yrs: 50y swim/1m bike/.3m run
9 – 10 yrs: 75y swim/1m bike/.3m run
11 – 12 yrs: 100y swim/2m bike/.5m run
13 – 14 yrs: 200y swim/3m bike/1m run
Physically Challenged: 100y swim/1m bike/.3m run
NCTS rules state that once you compete in a particular race category in an NCTS race you must remain in that same category for all future NCTS races in that calendar year.
An athlete’s age for any USAT sanctioned race will be his/her age as of December 31, 2009. The age he/she is on 12/31 will determine his/her racing age group. If an athlete is due to “age-up” into the next group, it will happen at the beginning of the year, not after the athlete’s birthday.
Packet Pick Up
Entrants are required to pick up their packets, scoring chips and race souvenirs in the HFFA Craighead A room on the day of event between 2:30p – 5:45p.
NOTE: A parent or guardian must be present for packet pick up and all forms filled out to race in the Birkdale Animal Hospital 2009 Kids Triathlon Series.
Post Race
Awards will be given in all categories following the July 18, 2009 final race or following this date from Kathy Goody, HFFA.
All finishers will receive a finisher’s award, event prize, and post race refreshments. Special awards will be given to the top 3 boys and top 3 girls for each age group.
Entry Fees
Fun Run only = $5 per race
All ages, On or before April 18 = $15 per race
All ages, April 19 to same-day = $20 per race
No refunds, exchanges, or transfers on entries. No credit cards accepted for same-day registrations. Cash or check only.
Discount Entry Fees
Four race series discount = $50/4 races
To receive discount, payment & registration paperwork for all 4 races must be received at HFFA on or before April 15.

Participant Meeting
A participant orientation meeting will be held at 5:45p on each Saturday race day in the pool area. Please be registred with all equipment in place and sitting in the bleachers on the WEST side of the 50M pool (opposite of the Outdoor Family Fun Pool). We will cover as many details as possible about the race and questions will be encouraged. A representive from USA Triathlon will also be on hand to discuss USAT issues and concerns relative to rules and safety. This meeting should last about 10 minutes – we encourage everyone to attend.

Registration
Online registration available through SetupEvents.com. Registration closes Wednesday at noon prior to each event. Same day registration closes 1 hour prior to event.

Rules of Competition
The Birkdale Animal Hospital 2009 Kids Triathlon Series is organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with Town of Huntersville, Parks & Recreation and HFFA rules. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
Babystrollers/Babyjoggers are not permitted on the race course.
Participant Photos
HFFA photographer will be onsite and photographing all race participants.
Equipment
- Approved CPSC/ANSI/SNELL bike helmet must be worn.
- All bikes must have handlebar plugs or grips that cover the ends of the handlebar (Tape is not acceptable).
Swim cap that is provided must be worn during the swim
USAT Membership
USA Triathlon requires that you show your USAT
membership card at packet pick up. Any USAT member that does not present his/her valid membership card at packet pickup will be required to pay the USAT one-day fee of $5.
Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:
- The event will be postponed until 6:30p and weather conditions will be reevaluated.
- If weather conditions do not permit race to proceed at 6:30p, the event may be changed to a swim/run format.
If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather a credit will be issued for all registered participants into the next Birkdale Animal Hospital Kids Triathlon Series event. No refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.
Volunteers
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to complete a volunteer form. A race official will contact you the week of the race.
