The Lessons program develops flexibility, strength and discipline while training each diver in the basic skills of tumbling, trampoline, dry board, deck drills, 5-meter platform, 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.
Quarterly sessions are divided into monthly blocks, each with a specific set of learning objectives, progressively building to the end set of graduation skills. Once the diver achieves all of the necessary skills, he or she is promoted to the next level. While this process seems regimented, workouts are kept as energetic and fun as possible. Practices end with a period of "free time" when divers have the opportunity to revisit what they have learned and explore new skills under their own terms. Huntersville residents who wish to participate in lessons, but have challenges with transportation can arrange to be picked up from school in conjunction with the HFFA afterschool program (additional fees may apply).
Beginning Lessons has three formats seen below. The curriculum focuses on front and inward rotation. Upon graduation, divers will be able perform among other skills: forward dives off the side of the pool, on 1-meter and 3-meter; inward dives off the side of the pool, on 1-meter and 3-meter; forward somersaults off the side of the pool and on 1-meter; forward line-ups on 1-meter and 3-meter; and backward line-ups on 1-meter and 3-meter.
- Beginning Lessons 1-Day (open) is the typical entry level for young divers. We follow the beginning lessons progression format at a slightly slower pace which allows new divers to learn at their own pace.
- Beginning Lessons-Neighborhood is similar to the 1-Day group, but targeted toward those who have complex schedules. Neighborhood groups follow the beginning lessons progression cycle and are available once a week (3-5pm, Monday through Friday) for groups of 4 minimum/15 maximum- first come first serve for day preference.
- Beginning Lessons 2-Day is for divers between the ages of 7 and 12 who wish to learn at a more accelerated pace than the once per week group. The increased number of practices allows the motivated beginner to accomplish more in a shorter period of time.
Advanced Lessons focuses on front and inward somersaulting and backward rotation. Upon graduation, divers will be able to perform among other skills: forward 1 ½ somersaults on 1-meter and 3-meter; inward somersaults on 1-meter; back dives on 1-meter and 3-meter; backward somersaults on 1-meter; and forward line-ups on 5-meter platform.
Once all of the lessons skills are mastered, divers are ready to move up to the Developmental Team where they learn the remaining dives required for their respective age-groups and are introduced to competition.

Competitive Teams

Our competitive teams are fashioned much as our lessons programs; teams are layered progressively from the Developmental Team through our Elite Team.
Most teams require a year long commitment with training goals established at the beginning of each season. Movement up in the team levels is determined by the coaching staff, but generally follows USA Diving's championship format - those divers who qualify for the Regional level meets are on the Developmental Team, those who qualify for the Zone level meets are on the Intermediate Team, and those who qualify for Nationals are on the Elite Team.
All team members receive dry-land training in our belt systems over the dry-board or trampoline, water training on 1-meter and 3-meter springboards and platforms, and a structured conditioning program with our strength and conditioning coach. |

Developmental Team

Practices revolve around perfecting basics skills like hurdles, line-ups, back and inward presses and developing age appropriate somersaulting and twisting skills on 1-meter, 3meter and 5-meter platform. Developmental Team divers are expected to attend local or regional invitational meets as well as USA Diving or AAU qualifying meets. Developmental Team divers typically range in age from 8 to 13.
